Why this route
The familiar first journey runs from the pyramid fields near Cairo to the temples and royal tombs of Luxor, then south to Aswan. The difference is not how many sites can be fitted on a list. It is whether each place gives the next one meaning, and whether there is time left to experience it.
At Saqqara, Djoser's Step Pyramid complex shows a turning point in royal stone building; at Giza the idea becomes monumental. In Luxor, temples and the west-bank burial landscape tell different stories about royal power and remembrance. At Aswan, the river and Philae bring a later chapter into view. Stop 1: Cairo and Giza

Good to know
Practical points we plan around
- A shorter trip can cover the main cities, but every transfer consumes a usable part of a day.
- With more time, give Luxor's east and west banks separate parts of the stay, and let Aswan be more than a departure point.
- Edfu, Kom Ombo and Abu Simbel are not free additions: each changes the transport and time budget.
- Prefer something different? Someone mainly seeking beach time, a single academic subject, or the lowest-cost way to collect as many sites as possible.
