Why this route
Most first journeys move quickly from Cairo to Luxor. This one asks what becomes visible when you do not skip the country in between. Beni Hasan's rock-cut tombs preserve painted scenes of work, movement and daily life from the Middle Kingdom. Farther south, Abydos and Dendera put different forms of sacred memory and temple-making into the same conversation before the route reaches Luxor. A knowledgeable local guide is necessary. An additional archaeology specialist may make the journey much richer; we will name that person only once their role and attendance are agreed.
The route, stop by stop
Stop 1: Beni Hasan
Rock-cut tombs whose painted scenes of work, movement and daily life survive from the Middle Kingdom.
Stop 2: Abydos and Dendera
Two different forms of sacred memory and temple-making, seen on the same road south.
Stop 3: Luxor
2–3 nights recommended
Stay in Luxor and you reach the West Bank tombs in the cool of the morning, with Karnak in the afternoon light.
