What's new in Egypt travel: openings, records and the dates ahead

The short answer

The Grand Egyptian Museum opened on 1 November 2025 with all of Tutankhamun's treasure shown together for the first time, and Egypt welcomed a record 19 million visitors in 2025. Ahead: the Abu Simbel sun festival on 22 October 2026, the museum's first anniversary on 1 November, and a total eclipse over Luxor on 2 August 2027.

Recently

  • January 2026: Egypt welcomed about 19 million visitors in 2025, a record and about a fifth more than in 2024, per the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (Business Today Egypt).
