Why this route
A dahabiya is one way to travel between Luxor and Aswan on a smaller vessel. The attraction is time on the river as part of the journey, not simply a more expensive label for the same excursions. The Egyptian Tourism Authority distinguishes dahabiyas from larger Nile cruise ships, but it cannot tell you how a particular boat will sail, motor, be towed or berth. That is why the exact vessel matters.
Our proposed route gives space to Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan, with at least one day whose point is the river itself. Philae can close the journey at Aswan if the final route and timing allow. Stop 1: Luxor

Practical points we plan around
- A smaller boat means fewer facilities on board; that is part of the choice, not a flaw to hide.
- Sailing depends on wind, water level and navigation; some boats motor or are towed for part of the way.
- A generic “five-star dahabiya” description is not enough to judge a boat.
- Prefer something different? Someone who wants more onboard facilities, a more standardised schedule or a different balance of price and facilities may prefer a larger cruise. Neither format is automatically quieter, cleaner or better guided.
