Valley of the Kings: tickets, which tombs to choose, and how to plan the visit
The short answer: The main ticket costs EGP 750 for foreign adults and, by travel-guide reports, opens three of the tombs open that day. Tutankhamun's tomb (EGP 700) and Ramesses VI's (EGP 220) have their own tickets, and so does Seti I's. The valley opens 06:00–17:00: in our judgement, go at opening.

The Ministry publishes no online price for Seti I's tomb. The travel guide Earth Trekkers (updated 8 July 2026) reports that the main ticket covers three tombs and that the open tombs change periodically; which ones are open is set by the antiquities authorities.
Which tombs are worth their own ticket
Seti I (KV17)
- What the official sources say
- Nicholas Reeves and Richard Wilkinson call it the longest, deepest and most completely finished tomb in the valley, and the first royal tomb decorated in all its passages and chambers. Its burial chamber has the valley's first vaulted ceiling, painted with astronomical scenes (*The Complete Valley of the Kings*, 1996, pp. 137–138).

Tutankhamun (KV62)
- What the official sources say
- The Ministry calls it the only royal tomb in the valley found relatively intact, discovered by Howard Carter in 1922.
- Who it may suit (our judgement)
- Small, and famous for what was found in it. Its treasures are now at the Grand Egyptian Museum, so see them there.

Ramesses VI (KV9)
- What the official sources say
- Begun by Ramesses V and enlarged by Ramesses VI for his own burial, per the Ministry. Reeves and Wilkinson note that the most complete version of the Book of Gates, the guide to the twelve gates of the night, was inscribed here (p. 37).
- Who it may suit (our judgement)
- The best value of the extra tickets, for its texts of the night.

How to plan the visit
- Go at opening: the valley opens at 06:00 every day, per the Ministry. In our judgement the first two hours are the coolest and quietest.
- Pair it with Hatshepsut's temple: both are on the West Bank, and our West Bank day tours visit them together.
- Then see who built it: Luxor's other West Bank visits the village of the tomb-builders and the temple where they went on strike.
